Hawk Racing

Hawk Racing was founded in 1998 by Sven Folmer, a former pro triathlete. When Sven decided to manufacture his own bottom brackets, his aim was to create something as smooth as ceramic bottom brackets, but more durable and less expensive. Hawk Racing’s bearings are made in Japan from the same manufacturer that makes bearings for Boeing. The proprietary grease that is used, is also derived from aerospace industry. Combined with light non-contact seals, this is a major factor in performance, since grease and seals usually account for 90% of the friction generated in a bottom bracket, far beyond bearing balls themselves (10%).

The result is a bottom bracket that was listed as one of the top performing in the test driven by the independent Lab Friction Facts in 2013.

Hawk Racing bottom brackets come in three different versions:

STANDARD: stainless steel ball bearings, non-stainless steel races, non-contact seals. For road use or MTN rides in mostly dry environments. These bearings provide the lowest rolling resistance.

FULL STAINLESS STEEL (FSS): stainless steel ball bearings, stainless steel races, non-contact seals. A good option if you ride very frequently in rainy conditions to expand your bearings lifespan.

FULL STAINLESS STEEL + CX SEALS (FSS+CX): stainless steel ball bearings, stainless steel races, double lip contact seals. The perfect choice for off-road riding, when water, grime and dirt tend to pile up around the bottom bracket area.
